Cheating an Online Casino?

Beating Online Casino House Odds

The first thing to realize when preparing to open an account in an online casino is that the long-run odds are against you. Just like the regular, bricks-and-mortar establishments. Period. Full stop.

Every type of casino – mainstream, online, tribal, “racino”, riverboat or on a cruise liner – lives off its winnings to cover overhead, taxes and return on equity. Barring the exceptional winning streak and jackpot, therefore, most customers must lose.

What about “hopes and dreams”, “hope springs eternal…” and all that? Well, we’re all grown-up’s here so let’s face facts: a casino is definitely the wrong place to make a quick buck.

Casinos are in the business to make money by giving you many ways to chase your pipedreams. Playing against the house online, not a single game has any probability of leaving you ahead in the long run. Nor can counting, a personal system or betting system touting perfect strategy reduce the odds. I personally am extremely skeptical of any betting systems out there. Since the idea itself seems so absurd, I have never tried any of the betting systems.

Nor am I a lone voice crying in the wilderness about this. The webmaster of Wizard of Odds has a standing offer of $20,000 against $2000 put up by anyone whose system stays positive on 1 million hands ran through a simulator. The last such challenger dug himself into an inescapable hole round about 162,000 hands of blackjack. (♠Daniel Rainsong Challenge - The Wizard of Odds)

With all the strategy books out there, I do not discount the possibility of a betting system that can win house games in a brick and mortar casino. Even on learning about these positive-return systems, mainstream casinos do not change the rules to stymie them because they know perfectly well the outcome. “Armed” with such new knowledge, more casual players would come to try their luck. Any losses over the normal payout percentage for say, blackjack, will be covered many times over by the rise in patron traffic.

Such systems are unlikely to succeed in online casinos because:
  • Online casinos are at liberty to set their payout percentages pretty much wherever they like, making it more difficult for systems to come out ahead.
  • The ease of obtaining cheat software on the Internet would have irreparably damaged every online casino by now.
  • The news about any successful system would have spread would have spread like wildfire on the Web.
  • I personally have never heard of a halfway-successful system to beat online casinos.

At the end of the day, the intrinsic appeal of online casinos is that they represent an inexpensive, controllable and convenient outlet for leisure activity cloaked as gaming pursuit. This sort of gambling is properly classed as entertainment.

Therefore, the best you could possibly do is to seek even odds or tilt them a bit in your favor. Among the many online games, the best example of this win criterion player-to-player games such as Texas Hold’ em. As long as you have your playing strategy down pat, you can definitely win in the long run.

At Acehero.com, quite possibly the only gambling forum in the world that truly rewards our members for their valued opinions, our discussion threads cover discoveries about winning play and the better poker rooms online that offer players a fair shake.
